From the President's Desk
Whoo baby it's been cold outside. I hope everyone has been staying warm and doing well. Time really seems to be flying by lately, but I'm excited to get into another year of club activities. Our spring swap will be here before we know it. The Midwest Federation will be having their annual convention, hosted by the Lincoln Gem and Mineral Club in Nebraska this year April 5th and 6th at the Sandhills Global Event Center at 84th and Havelock in Lincoln Nebraska. Thursday the third, they will be kicking things off with a field trip to Rose Clay pit for fishtail selenite and a road cut to collect fossils no charge. For details come to the meeting and we will let you know everything if you're interested in going out there. Until then stay warm and stay connected. Happy rock hunting. See you at the meeting. -Big Mike.

Our Scholarship Recipient for 2024
Congratulations to our scholarship award recipient, Benjamin Jones, seen here with his parents at the Hungarian Rhapsody at our annual banquet, Saturday June 1, 2024. Many thanks go to Velma Bradley and Doris Snyder, and Andrea Rinker for all their hard work!
Update: We received this note from Benjamin...
Dear Midwest Mineralogical and Lapidary Society,
I was writing to give thanks to MMLS for their scholarship of $1500. I was extremely delighted to have been chosen for this scholarship and for the honor of receiving it at the MMLS banquet back in May. College has not been without its challenges, and with this scholarship that burden will be much lighter. I am currently studying Environmental Science with a focus in the geosciences, and after graduation I plan on attending graduate school for Engineering Geology/Environmental Engineering and hope to be an Environmental Consultant. This scholarship will help me get one step closer to my goals.
I also wanted to say I enjoyed the banquet that was held back in May. It was very moving to see people not just from an environmental background but all backgrounds caring for and being passionate about the earth and the minerals it gives us to find and to research. So many talented and amazing folks being there to support my education was really inspiring, and I hope to give back to MMLS in the future with minerals that I might find. Thank you all once again for bringing your time, energy, and love for the sciences together to help me in my own journey to give back to folks as you've done for me. Thank you all very much!
